That's More On, not 'Moron Housing'. At least, I hope not.
An article in today's Post sparked some thought about pursuing the housing question in the direction of 'active adult' communities. Looking at a couple of sites, they certainly know the buzzwords -
"The charming blend of single homes, carriage houses (twins) and villas (quads) having luxurious designed floor plans offering first floor living, abundant storage space, volume ceilings, gourmet kitchen, attached garages and maintenance free exteriors. The association takes care of the lawn maintenance, snow removal and all of the beautiful natural walking trails. The focal point of the community is the multi million dollar clubhouse facilities where there is something for every one, with a state of the art fitness center, indoor pool, saunas, library, computer room, billiard room, multiple card rooms, and an arts and craft center with kiln, an elegant ballroom for the many festive parties. Tennis and bocce ball courts, a putting green, outdoor pool and nature trails complete the magnificent grounds."
"One floor living offers convenience and style. High volume ceilings, spacious kitchens, elegant Master Suites, 2 car garages, and plenty of storage are just a few of the many amenities offered. The Clubhouse has a Library, computer room, whirlpool spa, heated pool, sports bar, fitness rooms, gourmet kitchen and more. Located across the street is Willow Brook Golf Course, a par 70 public course. Nearby you'll find shopping, dining, Museums, cultural events, parks and recreation. Each home is energy-efficient and designed to minimize your maintenance. A home owners association provides year-round freedom from lawn care and snow removal, but enjoy your own garden area."
Of course, the attraction drops somewhat when you consider that we don't particularly care for a fitness center (visions of geezers in sweatbands) , billiards, cards, tennis, or golf. Arts and crafts? Shudder. Any computer use will be in our house, certainly (you do have cable modem access, right?) and the idea of a Clubhouse leaves me cold.
On the other hand, if we were to find one more oriented to quiet activities -- say, with a nearby large bookstore, and decent cooking classes, which could be worked off on walking trails and in the pool... or a housing arrangement offering access to such...maybe some decent photography centers...hmm...
We can't be the only ones looking for this mix, right?
