Connecting

My daugher says that cell phones ought to have a 'turn on' function such that you can call the phone, enter a code, and have it turn on and start beeping -- loudly -- for times just like this morning. I thoroughly agree. I'm given to understand that even when the phone is ' off ' , it's still available to the network -- I understand that its microphone can be forced on, remotely, by people "authorized to do so" -- so why not this? It's a good idea, and I hereby assign it to the same 'tell me again why we don't do this?' category as the 'auti-robbery emergency PIN number' that, if used, instructs the ATM to display that you have significantly less in your account than you actually do.

How's about it?
