Things are going surprisingly well.
This afternoon, I baked two dozen cookies (plus one, scarfed up by my daughter). This evening, I made two batches of honey chili, one of which is going to the high school tomorrow, along with the cookies, to be sold by the band and color guard, thankyouverymuch boosters. And while I was cooking all of this, I was moving around with almost no hitches in my stride. Granted, the stride was attenuated, and going up and down stairs still presents a bit of a problem (wonder if I can get someone to pick up one of those snappy walking sticks that the British companies make? Concealed sword optional, of course). So, for that matter, does simply standing on one leg while I pull on jeans. But hell, all things considered, not bad. Not bad at all.
I took the opportunity this evening to talk to my daughter about this morning. I can't honestly say there was a lot of give and take. Well, a fair amount of give; not too terribly much take. She reminded me that she had asked that we simply not talk to her. I told her that wasn't really an option, and that failing a better solution, we were probably going to have this conversation again. She was less than thrilled. However, later, on the way to pick up someone for color guard, I inveigled her into a conversation about politics, and that went pretty well. My goal, of course, wasn't to teach her politics, let alone to find out what she thought about Obama versus Clinton, but just to keep the lines of communication open. And at that, we succeeded.
Even if she did later refer to the classical music channel we were listening to as 'old people's music'. Hey, you can't win them all.

As long as you keep the lines of communication going, thats important. Welcome to parenting a teenager hah. Honey chili actually sounds really good, much better than the Wendy's I had for dinner.
Well, S, I always say, if you're in the area, stop by...
