I've been futzing with the template for this blog. I wanted something wider, while still leaving the sidebar info. Mostly, I got it -- but I am not thrilled with the image, which leaves that silly margin, or something, about three quarters of the way across the page. I think thats where the original right side used to be. If anyone knows how to expand that to be at the
new right side (the buzzword is 900pixels instead of 700), I'd appreciate learning of it. I'm not an HTML-savvy guy, for the most part.

I've learned most of my code by trial and error -- but I'm pretty sure that your image is already premade. If you can find a part of the code that says image src, something like that -- it might have pixels sizes behind it. Try fiddling with those. It might be a pre-set image, or not. (BY the way, if you do find the image, you could even upload another one of your choice and replace it with that one.) But, maybe that's just too over the top!
Ok, I figured that out one time and made the middle part of my template larger, but I can't remember how I did it. It was kind of by accident. I'd like to figure it out again, though, because I want it larger still. I'll pay closer attention this time and let you know.
No, it isn't, really. I like the idea of designing my own template, even if its just modding the one thats there. I admit, it bugs me just a bit that I can't figure it out. Seems like it isn't rocket science, after all...
Thanks for the ideas, and for the offers.
Well now I'm thinking I didn't make mine larger at all. I really thought I did, but when I look at other templates that are like mine, they're the same size. I remember messing with it and trying to figure it out, though. It really annoys me that I can't do it. It's like a puzzle that I've just got to solve.
Sounds like you and I have more than chocolate chip cookie appreciation in common.
What I had done was looked at the 'inner wrapper'. I think that they actually paint the whole background, then overlap with the wrapper et al. The original was 700 pixels, which I made 900. I see the image that appears to be leaving that bar, and I agree with Susie's comment about it being a pre-set size. I thought I could just drop a Width tag in there, but it didn't seem to have an effect.
Good grief! I turn around - and you've gone and changed the world! :-)
I tried to do the width change thing; heck, I even tried deleting all the content on the side, and it didn't do a thing. There used to be a way to change these things, but I think some poking around might be needed.
Might I suggest FireFox, that HTML debugger you can download (for FireFox) and some poking around? Find out the CSS attribute, and then see if you can set it locally in the HTML editing bit of Blogger?
I want to change mine, too.

I've been a FireFan for quite some time. Never did anything with cascading style sheet, though. Perhaps I'll give that a shot...
Okay... I'm on the case! Expect results - in this lifetime. Perhaps. :-)
Actually, you got me thinking (I'm sending you the invoice for the aspirin...), and I did some digging. The CSS is in the HTML, in the "header" section. It's not exactly crystal clear, so I've done some work and figured out a bit of a structure. More later.
Let me put it this way: what you want to do is easy when you know how. Nigh on impossible if you don't, though. And I'm not exactly sure, right now.
(Not to plug, but I did a quick write-up of my progress, so far. on my blog. It's called "Blogger Templates & CSS")

Sure, CA, use the sexy titles....
