I've seen photographs suggesting that it is very common for people in Japan -- indeed, throughout the Asian zone -- to sleep in public, so when I saw these pictures, I thought 'yes, more of the same'.
But when I got to the group shots at the end, I had my doubts. Nobody could sleep that way, without being tied to the wall, post, or something!

I actually was just reading a NY Times article last night about sleeping in other countries and in how in other countries people are more comfortable about sleeping in public, there is no stigma.
This article discusses how sleeping through the night (like a solid 8 hours) is actually relatively new development in sleeping habits and in many countries in the past and even now this not the case.
That's pretty interesting. I had not heard that.
Still kind of doubt those group shots, though. I mean, crammed into a locker, and hanging down?
