And I learned last night never to fry scotch bonnet peppers. (I was making a bean soup, and was frying onions, bacon, and a stack of veggies as prep to the simmer). I tossed the chopped pepper in just, well, just because all the rest of the veggies were going in there.

It was not a tear gas, but something worse...like a war gas. Got into the lungs, caused pneumonia like symptoms.

Live and learn. In either order please.

Darn -- it was sounding pretty good with the bacon and onions, too... war gas, huh? Hmmm... who can I suggest might want to try it as a novel food item?
