The running joke that you always hear on this day is, 'why do we call it Labor Day when no one (hardly) works that day?' So, given that I haven't worked since the beginning of June, I guess it's acceptable that I did -- we went out and chopped down some undergrowth that was springing up around the air conditioner's base unit. Sometimes, when I see houses where they've added on, I think we made a mistake to have the unit put where it is, because now we effectively can't expand the house in any direction without major rework -- the front has the stone and brick entry steps, the left side has the added-on garage, the back's got the kitchen extension, and the right has the base for the AC. Then I think: this is a nine room house, and we're four people. Do we really need to make it bigger?
The nine day calendar on this PC just popped up the big red appointments for this Thursday, which is when we each have the initial interview with the gastro guy, and then next Monday, my date with the cutter, which is when I have the bone graft done. I have to admit, I'm getting a little apprehensive about the graft. That's odd, because I believe that the procedure itself will work, and there's a pretty good chance that the graft will take; even if it doesn't, I'll just stick with what I have now, the fake upper teeth. I'm just not one who looks calmly at most medical stuff. The idea that I'll have multiple weeks of either not being able to chew at all, or chew very lightly, doesn't help. But this is where I wanted to be at this time last year, so I'm glad it's finally happening, win, lose, or draw.
When my wife came in from surveying the area around the AC unit, prior to the chopping and hacking extravaganza, she told me that she'd looked at the water spigot on the front of the house. "Did you know that it's leaking around the handle?" she asked. Uh-oh. Time to call the plumber!
