Beautifully touching photos. I saw one a few months ago of a Marine handing a young boy a folded flag, presumably his fathers. You can see the pain in the boys face, but you can also tell he is trying to put on a brave face. Quite a haunting photo.
I don't think I will ever get used to the idea of people dying in an unpopular war. I recognize that not all wars that are necessary will be popular, but when they're not popular, not generally supported, it drives the knife a little deeper. For me, anyway.
I tend to think of pictures like these when I hear the phrase about putting our military 'in harms way'. It sounds elegant, but I want to remember that these are actual people's kids, and parents, and wives, and husbands, and brothers, and sisters. I don't think that Bush remembers that. Maybe (no slime intended) he can't afford to.

My nephew leaves for boot camp next month. He enlisted after he graduated from high school last month. To me he's still just a baby.
