The guy was definitely a jerk and had no cause to verbally harass her like that or to ruin her film. But then I wouldn't have been taking pictures of a police motorcycle without permission. I know there's no law against it, but still....I would figure it could look suspicious.
Thats the thing, though. I think we're getting used to not acting suspiciously. Whatever happened to cops (real ones) treating citizens with respect and dignity? (I know; this kind of behavior isn't common. Its just one of my hot buttons.)
Oh, I definitely agree with you that he acted unprofessional and inappropriately. I guess I've just gotten so desensitized to the minority of police that do act that way, that I've assimilated my behavior and don't do anything to draw attention to myself where they're concerned.
Me, neither. But in the smallest of ways, I've started to become aware of it. Putting it here, in this widely read and quoted blog, is my way of getting the word out.
I have lived in different cities in the States, but this is the only place where I hear so many complaints about police officers. Coral Gables Police, the subject of my complaint here, is particularly scary in general.
Coral Gables police takes revenge on persons who placed a complaint. I know someone who placed a complaint against an officer was later attacked by 6 officers and arrested for no reason. They wanted to scare her so she wouldn't go forward with the initial complaint.
By the way, to clarify the matter, I apologized over and over again to the officer, but he was already pissed off. He's sort of a typical of Coral Gables police. I hear complaints about police from just about everybody around here. They are known for arresting people they feel like arresting.
Earlier this year, one of Coral Gables police officers killed a 29 years old person with a taser gun.
For your information, my case is very, very minor compared to the cases of my friends and acquaintances in South Florida. Many suffered physical injuries. The Internal Affairs erase the bad records on officers. Nothing gets done.
American Civil Liveries Union in Florida has only 40 stuff members, and their resources are so extremely limited. (Even their web site sucks) So limited that I have to say it's non-existent.
If someone (not me, by the way) wants to extensively work on issues of police brutality, South Florida is the best place to be!

In practice, I'm as meek as anyone else.
Thank you, Bill, for featuring my case here.

After your note, I looked again, and found this page, which talks about your experience, including the recovered 'infamous photo'.
