Teasing
One of the things that you teach kids pretty early in life is that its not nice to tease other people about the way they look. And there's a good reason for that. If you don't, these guys might pay you a little visit...
I recall reading, quite some time ago, about the genetic basis of ears like that, and how you could do surgery on the cartilage to allow them to fold back flatter. However, the apparent glum, dour attitude doesn't seem amenable to medical resolution. There's that theme from Deliverance again....
