Taking time off between when you leave one job and start another.
You get used to having lots of free time very quickly. You find that its really nice to be able to do errands and house tasks when it's convenient for you, rather than having to squeeze them into lunchtime, night, and weekend.
And your desire to work again, which is based in reality and logic, fights a constant battle against the forces of sloth. Thinking "Going back to work so that I can earn more money for savings would be a good thing' doesn't have quite the emotional impact as 'Do I have to? Well...no, actually not. Well, then !' Hey, time to read, time to take walks, time to do the things you want to do, pretty much when you want to do them.... whats not to like about that?
Prudence and care pay off in the future, but sloth and indolence -- ah, those pay off right now.
