"Harvard researchers have established a link between the growth of blood vessels and the mechanical stresses caused by the environment within which the vessels grow, a new understanding that researchers hope can lead to novel disease treatments based on manipulating blood flow to living tissues.'' - from Harvard Science
I'd like to say that I wondered about exactly that point, awhile back. That would actually be true, though no where near as prescient as it sounds. (I also was likely wondering about why dumpsters can't be made out of rubber, and why we don't have sonic deadeners for large, noisy rooms yet.)
It's an interesting and fairly comprehensible article.
