Years ago, my sister in law, who is a senior exec with FEMA, asked me if I received a pension for my time in the military. "Only the thanks of a grateful nation", I said. She was astonished. "Nothing? No pension, no payout?" Nope.
Last night, my wife mentioned to her that she'd just gone over thirty years with EDS (which is pretty amazing). "Now you have seniority!" her sister said. My wife decided not to tell her that not every business has the same personnel rules as the government. Course, we don't have the arcane rules, or the generally lower pay scale, either, which is worth something -- but not in times like this. Wonder if they're hiring at the Post Office?
