I was surprised, not entirely in a pleasant way, when, while reading an article about older (ahem!) workers' experiences in their first job interviews in decades, to learn that they frequently thought that 'merely' having decades of experience meant that they were qualified for a job. They didn't realize that what qualifies as 'qualified' has changed -- and that you tend to expect more from a person on their way in than you do from a person who's been there a while.
An unsettling thought. Experience doesn't count? Not as much as I'd have thought, apparently.
