Recap

I thought they both did an overall decent job. I learned some things about McCain that improved my image of him.

I think McCain had to win; Obama simply had to not lose. And so far, the polls are showing us Obama came away a winner.

I thin McCain stuck his personal story in there too often: he's in danger of going from hero to cliché.

Er, "think", not "thin"!

I think it was a tie and both men conducted themselves with dignity and made us look good internationally. McCain sounded like the old Senator that had moderate values and not the new Senator that is falling to the right.

CA -- You're right about the personal story. I got a little tired when he kept saying how thick his passport was. I only recall him mentioning the POW thing once, though.

T - I agree; I think they both did well. And I think your observation about McCain's style is exactly right -- this was the McCain of five years ago.

On Twitter, one or two people kept saying that McCain was lying; I could not tell how much of that was true and how much 'well, he must be, after all, look how much lying he did in his campaign'. Also, both of them exaggerated strongly at times. I believe McC did it more during the campaign, but I don't know about last night.
