Later....

Well, I feel better. Which is odd, because nothing's really gotten better. Its just that we've taken care of a few things.

For one, I had the medical thing, and they drew blood as expected, so I don't have that hanging over me. I expect that the results will be okay but not great. I can live with that. I still want and need to pay attention to this stuff, but I'm committed, now. They have the sample. There was a time when I'd have just cancelled the appointment, which is silly. Didn't do that. Thought about it, though.

The bank statements are balanced. I always feel better when thats done. I just like knowing what our financial position is, even when the objective numbers aren't so delightful. And the process of getting the password reset was amazingly easy. I was all set to be irritated, and it was done.

We're not going to the meeting tonight. Partially, its the weather, but mostly its because we decided that we're not going to let our daughter go to China this year. Its just not a good year for expenses like that. Next year, maybe. Assuming the price of fuel hasn't gone back up -- though I'm given to understand that even with it having dropped, airlines didn't see fit to drop their fares. Nice.

My wife agreed that the email from my former coworker was intense, and disturbing. I feel sorry for her. Its never good when your spouse is going to have major surgery, and to have to do it when you're feeling financially unstable -- ouch.

I know a chap who's spent quite a bit of time in China (he's been there so often he's fairly fluent in Mandarin) - and he's telling me it's not the time to go there.

(Not that I was, I simply asked him why he wasn't going, this year.)

The slowing of industrial growth is leading to riots and stuff that you won't hear about, but happen all the same.

I sincerely hope it's not too much of a disappointment for your daughter. Right now, I think we all have to tighten our belts a little.*

Cynical? You? Say it ain't so....

Actually, it was a non-event. We prepared our arguments, told her it just wasn't a good time. She barely looked up while replying 'Yeah, sure, whatever....' They do have trips to Japan, so possibly in the next couple of years - She glanced up. "I really don't care".

Oh.
