This is how bored I am, waiting for the Minions of Medicine to get going: I just looked up the definition of the word 'casserole'.
Granted, I've wondered off and on about it, since there never seemed to be a standard use of the word (like the old joke about Don't Order The Soup d'Jour, They Change It Every Day) but looking it up?
That's bored.

Its a covered baking pot. I had thought it implied a style of cooking (eg, flambe, with sauce,with meat, whatever), or a type of ingredient, but its just -- the pot.
Okaaay. Now I know.
