Getting Attention

If you want to get attention, try bouncing down the last four steps of a flight of stairs, on your hip, to the point where you need to be brought to a local emergency room and scheduled immediately for hip-repair surgery.

And those walkers that people use? Not nearly as much fun as they appear to be.

Oh no you didn't! It hasn't been a year since your last horrid fall, has it? I hope you heal quickly!!!

Oh, no! I hope you're up and feeling better soon.

It's been about eighteen months. Lets hope this isn't becoming a trend.

I have appointments to see the general practice doc and a local orthopedic surgeon this week. That should be fun, too. Taking off your clothes when you can't bend over is -- challenging.

My guess -- my hope -- is that it'll take me about a month to be able to move around easily with the walker (which may be a contradiction in terms; I've told people I'll get a great set of triceps out of this). I remember that when I had the shoulder surgery, I was surprised how much I could do a month afterwards. This is obviously different, but I hope the concept applies anyway.

Oh, shug! You poor little critter.

While it's wonderful to know that you heal well - and quickly - somehow, it seems nicer if the universe would ensure that this is NOT a trend.

Warm fuzzy e-healing vibes! Take care.

Thanks very much -- I really appreciate all of this. Were you here, I'd feed you. Tiramisu, if I can get the ingredients again. I haven't tried cooking anything yet. I have the feeling that seeing me move things around the kitchen will be like the old riddle about the fox and chickens crossing the river. It'd take a loooonnnggg time.....

What the heck did you do to yourself? Did you already have surgery?

Smashed up my left hip while surfing the stairs at my MIL's house the day after Christmas. Yes, the surgery was that same day.

I'm glad to hear that you are recovering, even if is slow-going!

Thanks, A. It is actually going faster than I had anticipated -- they're already talking about switching from the walker to a cane, though my guess is that that won't happen for at least ten days more. There are times when its easy, and times when I've pushed just a bit too hard, and, as one therapist put it to me yesterday, 'the body complains about it'. Yeah, screaming in my ear! But, overall, its goodness. Probably won't be out there skiing with you this year, though.
