Organizational Stupidity

Every so often I find an article which so stuns me that words literally fail me

This is one of them.

Some days I am sure we are 'going to hell in a handbasket."

It's obvious what they were trying to do. It's even obvious why, presented with this specific instance, they didn't agree that this wasn't a contravention. What isn't obvious is why none of this occurred to them before. I surely hope they corrected it afterward.

When I worked for the Other Company, I was told that something that I had on my wall -- a phone list, I think it was -- could not be there. I asked why, and was told that it was not allowed. I asked where what was, or was not, allowed to be posted was promulgated, or when we were told, or any of that. It hadn't been.

I left it there. They never asked again. I think it was the same as this: someone was trying to enforce an overly broad rule, and they pushed it too far.

Of course, in our current society, 'too far' is further than it used to be. How often have you seen the phrase 'For security reasons....' lately?
