I got the Canon S3 today. So far I've spent about an hour on the bed, playing with knobs and dials. Had one scare when I thought I smelled something like smoke, and then the camera would not turn on. I swapped for regular batteries, it turned on -- and then I put the alkaline ones back in, and it turned on again. No idea. I also took about five pictures of my foot before I realized that I was doing it. It's nice to be able to erase them!

I'm so excited for you! I remember how in awe I was with my S1 when I first got it. I recommend purchasing a second set of rechargeable batteries .. you're going to need backup when you start playing with all the settings and clicking off the photo ops.
Now .. dare I ask for a self portrait posted in your profile anytime soon?
Well... how about the one -- actually, three -- that I inadvertantly took of my foot last night?
Seriously, sure, I think thats doable. I'll try to give advance warning, so that you can refrain from having eaten anything for at least six hours prior to seeing it. But first I need to get comfortable with the camera. For one thing, I need to find out if there is a way to NOT have the Settings come on all the time, just because the corner of my hand happens to rest on it while I'm messing around. Ah, problems of the idle photographer!
