How difficult would be be to cause a telephone at your home to hook into a device so that you could shut it off as desired? I'm thinking of the technique used in Stranger in a Strange Land, where they 'turned off the telephone' at night. I seem to recall hearing of something years ago, where you could set up a code that you gave to people you wanted to have able to call as needed, others being stopped by the device, but nothing about setting it based on time -- switch off our telephones at 10PM; callers get the option to enter their code, or they get to leave a message. Surely that must be relatively straightforward?
Also, people like aquariums because they're peaceful, which I think means that they like the sound of the gurgling water and watching the fish swim aimlessly. Could you make a reasonable aquarium entirely digital, I wonder?
And don't call me Shirley.
