I would imagine that if that guy DID have that conversation at the party -- I doubt it, but there are people who are perfectly comfortable doing so -- there wasn't a lot of friendly followup. More likely "Listen, if it wasn't for Republicans, these people wouldn't have jobs, and the government wouldn't get taxes -- so then where would they be?"
