I just learned that my daughter's school is closed tomorrow.
A week of vacation, New Years Day -- and now another day off, for a 'teacher in service day'.
Be better called a 'teacher out of service day', I would think.
I know that teachers work hard, and all of that. But they couldn't do this during that week?

Only a week? Ours got from the 22 of Dec to the 8th of Jan off.
(I think my previous comment died, so if it's the same thing twice, think of it as your '07 deja-vu)...
Teachers deserve their vacation, too. Inservice days suck.
Another reason to find the closest Canadian consulate and look into getting citizenship there.... though I suppose 'Because it strikes me as a generally cool, no pun intended, country, plus our current president is .... irritating' might not pass muster for Good Reasons To Let Them In.
All I know is, this school district seems to have very strange concepts regarding how long the school year should be, and what is justifiable for interruptions thereunto.
This from the guy who is intending to retire no later than June, 2008, and is looking for a half-decent reason to make it sooner.
