So I tried to play a DVD in my laptop's DVD-compatible player. No go -- got snarky messages about needing a DVD decoder. Bought Roxio Sonic. No go -- got snarky message about copyright configuration failure. Found a web site recommending a free video (and other) player from VideoLan.
