Piercing News

They say it's always a good day when you learn something. Today, I learned something.

If you have a water line for an icemaker which has never been used, and when you open the valve, no water comes out, try making sure the valve is all the way open. That will pierce the water supply, if it hasn't already been done, and allow water to flow.

The plumber was here for fifteen minutes. That bit of knowledge worked out to about five dollars a minute.

Makes sense to me and that is why they get the big bucks.

I was thinking about it as I contemplated the hole in my checkbook. If I had tried that, and broken the pipe or the device (he called it a 'saddle'), I'd have felt like an idiot. On the other hand, if I'd done it and it worked, I'd have wondered if I would be able to shut it off later!

Those saddle nozzles are designed to work only a few times on and off from my experience as they are made from soft copper, aren't they?

Yup. And the handle is also the shutoff, which is UPSTREAM from the regular shutoff under the sink. I'm not too thrilled about that, although this page
does say to do it exactly that way.
