Asking for Help with Kids
There's a short piece -- actually, readers letters -- in the Christian Science Monitor web site on the subject of helping kids, or helping other people with their kids, when they clearly need it. The writers make the same basic points as have been addressed before -- afraid of being charged a pervert for wanting to help with a small child; unwillingness to get involved; the attitude of entitlement that makes helping seem the act of a fool. One person refers to the attitude of suspicion and distrust towards the volunteer as 'stink eye', which I think remarkably descriptive. It's interesting reading.
