Aging

I attended a color guard competition tonight in which my daughter was participating. I brought my mother. The woman at the desk said 'Two seniors?'

Argh.........

At least I got to see about a hundred enthusiastic kids doing the Cha Cha Slide. Very cool.

"color guard" as in military style high school marching or as in "winter guard" high schoolers waving flags and wooden sabers and rifles to contemporary music?

Both are fun. :)

And you should've taken the senior discount! Save the two dollars to go get coffee with the senior crew in the morning at Burger King!

Winter guard, although I think that locally they reserve that phrase to the group that does outside demos, marching and stuff. I am amazed at how 'into' this parents get, with shirts and whatnot boldly stating the group's name, competitions won, and all of that. Some have a helpful phrase such as 'Here comes the best, get back, you rest'. My favorite was a guy with an ornate script on his T shirt that said The Guardfather.

I am not a senior. I never WILL be a senior. I will be drooling in my shoes (no, more than I do now) and denying that.

My mother talked to me yesterday about this. She was asked if she wanted the senior discount at the hair salon, something she didn't even realize they had. She told me it still takes her by surprise, being thought of as a senior citizen. She's 67 years old Bill, so you are not the only hold out.

I keep remembering my mantra: Old is ten years more than whatever I am now.
