After IBM came out with 'guidelines', I wrote an actual script for my message. People told me it was the longest phone message they'd ever heard -- but by god it met every standard IBM proposed. The full message was something like a minute forty seconds long.

When voice mail first came out I was "volunteered" to try it. I figured a message like "this is you know who, and you know what to do!"
My boss told me to change it. 3 weeks later. :-)
