Strangeness

I just did something that I never thought I'd do.

One of the people I work with, who has a mildly raunchy sense of humor, sent me (and several other people) an email with soft-core pornographic pictures. From his work email id.

I'm no more moral than most people, less than some, more than others. But this bothered me. I thought it was tacky, and to do it with his work email really bothered me. I don't know why that put the cap on it, but it did.

So I sent him a reply asking him not to do it in the future, and to consider not doing it at all.

Why do I feel as if I should change my name to Priscilla?

Its not the porn...its the use of a company work computer resource being used for such a blatantly personal thing. We see that your friend's company trusted him to use their resources wisely, to get a fair days work from a fair days wage....and you hate it when you see a friend break that trust.
When in doubt, turn it about...(as my old grandma used to say). How would you friend feel if his boss ordered him to pick up his suits at the dry cleaners on the way into into work? Sort of used eh?

Of course, his social contract is likely not perceived the same way...and many people think I am all kinds of fool to expect loyalty from my employees. Those people watch their employees like hawks, and get resentful workers as a result.

You may be onto something there. I know that if he had forwarded it from a personal email box, I would have been surprised but not offended. The use of the work email offended me. Part of that was thinking 'how could he be so stupid? This is the kind of thing we fire people for!'

Thanks.
