Vegan == Romulan Cousins?

This is an interesting article about a subject I view with some disdain.

Forgive me for being dense, but which part do you feel disdain about? I guess I'm not seeing anything overtly disdainful about the subject matter, with maybe the exception of PETA. Which even alot of vegetarians think can be a bit whacko at times.

Enlighten me!

Aha! I paid attention to the subject line upon looking at it again. After looking up what a Romulan is (my husband would be mortified that I do not know what a Romulan is, I am sure) I have come to the brilliant deduction that it's the damn Vegans!

Is it vegetarianism in general that you hold disdain for or just those whacky Petans? (Sorry, feeling a bit whacky myself today :P).

It's the whole concept of vegetarianism I don't get. Then again, I'm not much of a vegetable eater, and I don't understand people who are delighted by it. I'm doing good to eat corn, peas, and the occasional glazed carrot -- and I'd bet glazed carrots are considered beyond the pale to a vegan.

Hee, you realize of course I'm a vegetarian, as is my husband and our two daughters (we're not vegan though). I don't think we really eat any more vegetables than the average person for the most part.

Honestly, my husband's attitude toward vegetables is about like yours. I'm hard pressed to get him to eat vegetables other than sweet potato's, green beans and corn.

I think the word "vegetarian" itself is a bit misleading in that our diet is pretty much like everyone elses, just subtract the meat. We mainly eat pasta's, stir fries, that kind of thing. Nowadays, the soy substitutes are really good, depending on the brand. It works for us, but admittedly, isn't for everyone. Obviously hehe :P

Shows my level of knowledge about vegetarianism -- I thought it was predominantly tofu and broccoli, with the occasional chaser of asparagus and kale.

Okay, not *that* bad, but not that far away, either. I should think about it....

Although I love my vegies, I couldn't do without a diet with meat. I seem to always be low carbing it, and somehow pasta, rice and potatoes aren't on that list.
I wonder how one can give up good tasting meat for that horrible tofu too, but each to their own.

Narie, thanks for the definition of Romulan. hehe

I think that just for starters they should rename it. 'Tofu' always sounds to me like 'toe food' which I then transmute to 'toe jam'. Yuck.

Any food where advocates have to say 'hey, it really isn't that bad....'
