No Hops Zone

To my surprise, I seem to have a physiological reaction to the three quarters of a glass of beer that I had last night. I woke this morning with a slight headache and the taste of malt (for lack of a better word) in my mouth. So I guess I won't assume that beer-drinking is something you can ease into - obviously, I should have started doing this when I was in the military. Ah, well. It's back to the ice wine and such for me.

It may have been the brand of beer you drank - I'm severely negatively affected by various brands but can drink others like water. Obviously, there's some magic ingredient some put in that others don't. Similarly, I can't drink "oaked" or sweetened wine. Go figure.

It was Troegs Pale Ale -- I know nothing about the brand (or any brand except really, really well known ones, or local ones that people joke about). Picked it because Pale sounded less lethal than the others. I thought it had a nice taste but nothing I'd go out of my way for. What I need is a 'beer tasting' -- if there is such a thing.

Here in the town I live, we have beer tasting and wine tasting events. I have yet to attend the wine tasting one, but that's because we just started making our own wine in the past year and I've developed an appreciation for different tastes. I'm so not a strong wine drinker, and after making white, rose and red, I prefer red.
I'm so not a beer fan, so sorry I can't help you with nicely flavoured beers.

My wife's family is Italian. At one of the first dinners I had at their home, they offered me some wine. I don't know much about wine, but the name on the label was well-known, so I said sure.

Which is when I learned what 'dago red' is. And that bottles can be reused.
