Is it that the numbers add up to more than unity?

But that's polls for you...one can side with two different parties at any given time. Like, although one could understand why a Democrat would support a "green party" candidate, it "might" be a little harder to imagine a "libertarian-republican".

But not impossible, at least on some issues.

To an outsider like me, it tends to look like different pews in the same church, though of course to an insider, it doesn't look like that at all!

The numbers can add up to unity because it's possible to agree with portions of multiple parties positions, as you say. Unlike, for example, polls shown by Fox...
