Saturday Notes

My mother's in the rehab hospital. She's reasonably content, and even speaking a hair better. We're guessing about a three week stay. Let's hope!

I understand that the new Apple Leopard operating system includes, as its icon for Windows systems, a screen showing the Windows Blue Screen of Death. Crude. So -- what should a Windows system show for any Macs it happens to find?

Kettle brand Honey Dijon potato chips. Delightful.

Was the Lone Ranger the first person/show to use the concept of 'the silver bullet' ?

Relative to a school project, my daughter said that she believes in a modified application of the death penalty. If you kill once, long jail term. If you kill twice, life. If you kill a third time, death. I was impressed by that.

I don't like that the proposed Attorney General won't come out against waterboarding, but I don't think that any AG who would be proposed by Bush would. As someone said, he's better than Gonzales. Then again, so's my grocer.

I hope it's a short, easy 3 weeks!

Me, too. No one's said to us that it'll probably be that long -- we just think so, based on her experience before. If she's talking (badly, but talking) now, we assume it won't take a long, long time to get her back to talking and swallowing normally. If she's somewhat weak now, we assume it won't take a long, long time to get her up and moving around again.

Note the key word in those sentences.
