Not Supporting The Team

I must be a terrible person.

My daughter is in color guard, which performs at high school foodball games, and also on its own.

The booster club -- the band booster club -- is telling everyone that tonights game will include recognition of graduating high school seniors, and that to enhance this, you can donate a flower -- handmade, real, or artificial -- to a group that will be put on sashes for the seniors to wear.

I don't support the band boosters. I think that the band thing is wildly overdone. I think it ought to be scaled back, not enhanced. I am in the minority on this.

As for the seniors themselves, frankly, I think that if anyone wants to recognize them, fine, but don't push the idea. Let their peers do it, if they want. When my daughter gets there, I won't expect other parents to fund my daughter's recognition. I was willing to be guilted into doing it anyway -- my daughter wanted to -- but I forgot to buy her a flower, and, of course, there are none in bloom -- so, we didn't. The heck with it.

I must be a terrible person.
