I won't buy a Mac laptop just because there's a nifty way of finding it (maybe) if it's stolen -- but this is an interesting article about one guy's experience, nonetheless. And the RCMP comes off looking pretty slick, too.
BTW, looks like the free product works on Windows, too. Which makes me think - Hmm... So these guys become the default tracking all these laptops site, huh? Knows where they all are? How secure is their data?
But still, neat idea.

I don't think they have a central repository; they're using distributed tools. It's not a bad idea, and it has a clever implementation, but it is a huge potential security hole. I think I'd consider if we still lived in NYC.
Out here, my laptop goes from upstairs to downstairs; I don't think the cats are interested in it, except for the occasional one who has a nap on the nice and toasty keyboard... (And Bongo, who likes to sleep on the case.)
My laptop stays 90% of the time right next to an easily-breakable window. But the cat's guarding it.
