From Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal:

I think it's a little glib, but I like it. I also like the comment I saw somewhere that government ought to fear its citizens, rather than the other way around.

I believe it was one of your founding fathers....

The actual quote by Jefferson is "When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty."

Tom J. is one of the reasons why I have such a powerful admiration for the principles which founded the United States. That and the other Tom...Thomas Payne.

He is the one who said....

"Arms discourage and keep the invader and plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as well as property... Horrid mischief would ensue were the law-abiding deprived of the use of them".

Both of 'em had a lot to say about a lot of things. Not all of it was relevant (Don't squat with yer spurs on...would be relevant, but....maybe not... with respect to Obama-care or bipartisan houses.

I think that the problem I have with guns is that its so much more likely now that a gun owner can do great damage than it was two hundred years ago. Its a potent mix when coupled with the current greater population density and number of crazies. The NRA refuses to admit this. Their solution is that I should shoot back.

Funny thing: I understand they prohibit visitors to their Washington office from carrying weapons.
