Roofing

A lot of the homes in our area are having their roof replaced, the result of 'hail damage'. We did have quite the hailstorm here, a while back. Inch-sizes stones were seen. Each and every one says that it's being paid for by the homeowners insurance.

So, tomorrow, we'll have one of the companies look at our roof. I fully expect that they'll say oh, yeah, we found hail damage -- see the pictures? And we'll talk, and maybe we'll end up with a new roof.

Now, if I could just be sure that these roofs will be well done, so that they last twenty years ...... and that this is all legit. Because somehow, it doesn't quite feel it. And yet, new roof? Free? Well, if we need one.....

Do we? Hmm....

We had to get a new roof the past few months, too. No fun.

Why was it not fun? Expense?

After a storm like that, you're probably wise to get it inspected. A reputable firm will tell you what you need to know. Ask them about the flashing around any openings; also, if your roof has valleys, ask them about those - and how they'll fix them if they need fixing.

Ask around, Google them, contact the BBB and so on.

One thing you probably should do is go up into the attic and take a look around. If you see stains that weren't there before, your roof might need repair. Depending on the conditions, it might need replacement.

Oh - and don't forget to ask your insurance company about their process for this. I did hear of someone who neglected that step and they ended up with a large bill to pay. (If they have recommended contractors, you might have to use of them.)

Good luck! Roofing issues are no fun at all. (One of the things I paid close attention to with this house was the condition of the roof, and how easy it would be to repair!)
