I think that it doesn't matter if we have something to hide or not. It's an intrusion of our privacy, and my take is that that's a contravention of the Fourth Amendment. I find the government's defense that this information is 'essentially' already in the public domain is spurious and specious. And to continue the alliteration, it sucks.

I have nothing to hide, but if the govt. is going to seek us everywhere we have a right to know they are doing that!!
