If I had an index card with Rules of Life on it -- which I don't, but there are times when I think I should -- this past episode would make me add "Don't have more than shallow conversations with adolescents to whom you are not closely related. You'll go down in flames."
You'd think I would remember, but I don't. I try to treat them like adults, and I go down in flames, every time.
