Microburst

Its not nearly -- not even close to -- the devastation wrought in the New Orleans area, but we had our own swath of destruction last night, as what appears to have been a tornado microburst touched down in our area. Trees are uprooted, including one in our yard, and major limbs are either severed or hanging, all across the area. So far as we know, no one was hurt, and there is no major damage to houses -- though two cars had limbs fall on them.

And it didn't sound like a freight train, either -- though it did sound weird.

An interesting night.

We've been through that before many years ago. . .tall pines uprooted, my husbands boat dropped in our neighbor's driveway, the roof blown off the building in front of the school on the hill above our house and slammed into the windows of MY classroom. I added to the list of things I was thankful for that it was SUNDAY morning. And a very scary morning it was.

It wasn't particularly scary, though it was awfully creepy when the power went out and the house was very, very quiet. Not a good time to be thinking about the episode of the Simpsons where he sees the movie 'Left Below'/
