Motivation

An article in the online version of Inc magazine mentioned ways to motivate employees for not much money. One was having office celebrations. This was their article's illustrative photograph:


Southern California, possibly. Elsewhere? I kind of don't think so.

Oh, no. It wouldn't because people here don't react this way -- trying to do it would be like using a Hollywood TV version of high school as a way to run a real one. People aren't that shallow. I was just fascinated by the picture, precisely because of that cognitive disparity.

But the underlying concept can work, I think.

After a long days work, we have a bbq. Often my employees stay, sometimes they have their spouses show up with the kids and a package of burgers, and eat here.

I thoroughly agree with that idea. I've seen people bonding at a barbecue where the barbecue was the most industrial thing...just the event itself was enough.
