The Gift

We just bought our neighbor's piano.

They're happy, because they wanted to sell it.

We're happy, because it cost less than four month's rental of a piano.

And the daughter's happy, because not only does she have a piano again, but a) she knows we bought it, so there is no chance that we'll say 'practice or the piano goes back', and b) there are no lessons on the horizon, so she can just mess around whenever and however she likes.

Life is good.

I would love to have a piano--I took nine years of lessons and would like to mess around (like your daughter)--but since I'm still renting, it isn't too practical. I've looked into a full-size electric keyboard, but they are really expensive!

We had gotten a keyboard some years ago (not low end, but not expensive), and it worked for a while, though the piano bigots would say 'Well, of course, its Okaaaaaay......' and change the subject. And we still have it. You can stop by and play it any time you're in the neighborhood.

A piano is good.

What would be your favourite piece of piano music then?

Why, the piano accompaniment to Old Time Rock n' Roll, of course.

Possibly some Chopin.

And occasionally, quiet dinner background music.

And of course, anything my daughter wants to play. At the moment, its Jingle Bells, right hand only.
