I saw a picture of multiple priests, ministers, etc gathered for some event, and most were wearing vestments. I found myself wondering - again - how wearing the clothes of something two thousand years old helped them be relevant.
I think religion does help, but I don't think it's the only way.
When some silly ass fool is bending my ear about all the problems in his life, and expects ME to do something about it, it is always kind of handy to be able to say....doood, tell it to the padre...he will be an uninterested as I am, but at least he feels it is his dooty to listen to your piss-ant problems.
Then I get a big old guilt trip over this attitude, and leave money in the church box. Because, all in all, they actually DO seem to do some good once in a while. More than, say, a new walmart or macdonalds. Less than a new factory...
I think the almighty or one of his heavenly representatives should speak up every few hundred years, make a statement, to keep to keep religion current.

An inconvenient truth.

Some cults have some pretty big congregations, and some religious demominations are pretty piddly.

I usually listen. Doesn't cost me anything but time, and frequently it helps them.

The problem is that the representatives don't speak together, at all. Well, one of the problems.
