Truthfully, I think in pretty much the same place. He has someone who obviously cares enough to come repeatedly to see him, but his life is still pretty messed up.
At some point he may regret his performance now, but so far theres little sign of it. And yet, every so often, when he gets something right, he seems so pleased.
